Register to attend this free community discussion on next steps to build a food justice movement.

The purpose of this December 8 Summit is to provide a place for community members and organizations to gather after the elections to plan next moves for the Food Justice Movement.

All across the country, people are talking about access, environmental, and health problems caused by our current industrial food system. Recognizing that critical work is being done in local communities around the country, we believe the time is right to build a food justice movement.

Through discussions at Taking Back Our Food System events held in the SF East Bay this past year, it has become clear that communities are having the same discussions in siloed conversations, about similar barriers and goals.

The People’s Food Justice Summit will bring these conversations together, so we can make decisions for what we all want to see in a movement. The Summit will begin with honest discussion and collaboration, and move the food justice movement to explore how we can launch a shared food justice campaign for 2013.
Acta Non Verba, Alameda Point Collaborative, Ashoka, Bay View community member Keisha Cromartie, CA Association of Food Banks, Changelab Solutions, City Slicker Farms, Dig Deep Farms, Ecology Center, Farm Fresh Choice, Food Shift, Grind for the Green, Liv Real, Movement Generation, Oakland Food Connection, Oakland Food Policy Council, OBUGS, Peoples Grocery, Pesticide Action Network North America, Phat Beets Produce, Rooted in Community, Roots of Change, RYSE Center, SFSU students, Tenderloin Neighborhood Development, Urban Tilth, WOEIP, 1 in 10 Healthy Food Policy Coalition, California Institute for Rural Studies, Food Chain Workers Alliance, Hunger Action LA, San Diego Hunger Coalition, South Central Farmers, National Center for Social Inclusion, Creative Consultants, and the Rural Coalition have been working together to develop the scope, agenda, and overarching principles guiding the Summit. To participate in the Planning Committee contact Jessy Gill (see below).

Cultural inclusion will be incorporated in every level of the Summit. We will create a space to allow individuals and organizational representatives to speak from the heart, and share rituals and experiences; allowing us to share at deeper levels, and address injustices in the movement.

The primary goal of the Summit is to build alignment and momentum to build a stronger and more cohesive food justice movement by launching a People's Campaign.

The People’s Campaign will be used as an organizing tool, Our vision is for this Campaign to have concrete activities at local, state, and national levels to allow cross-sectoral and cross-geographic engagement and unity throughout the food justice movement.

Mark your calendars to help us launch this movement-building Summit.

Community Food and Justice Coalition (CFJC) and Food First are calling this Summit.
