The OAS: The region's most respected human rights body, calls on the Guatemalan government and Goldcorp to halt gold mining

On May 23, 2010 The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), an independent body of the Organization of American States (OAS) called on the government of Guatemala to suspend mining activity at Goldcorp’s Marlin mine and protect the health of the surrounding indigenous communities due to human rights violations and health impacts of the Marlin mine in the western highlands of Guatemala.

Today, heavily armed members of the national police, military and criminal investigation units under the coup regime raided the Honduran farm organization COMAL (Alternative Community Marketing Network) in Siguatepeque, in Comayagua. COMAL is a coalition of 42 small-scale farming and women's organizations from throughout Honduras.
