Food First at the WTO Summit

NGOs from around the world will come together November 26 through December 3 to protest against the World Trade Organization's Ministerial Meeting held in Seattle, Washington. Food First will join in this protest by participating in many of the events scheduled between November 26 to December 3, 1999.



November 26-27

Roundtable discussion featuring the most prominent voices of Third World opposition to the new instruments of re-colonization: globalization, the WTO and transnational corporations. [Recorded 11/27/99 Seattle/WTO. Running time 3 hrs.]

The International Forum on Globalization (IFG) is organizing a Teach-In on the World Trade Organization (WTO). The event will take place at the 2,500-seat Benaroya Seattle Symphony Hall a few days before the WTO Ministerial meeting. Most of the Teach-In events will be free to the public.

The Seattle Teach-In will focus on the problems of economic globalization and, specifically, on the activities of the WTO and other international agreements and institutions. Panels of speakers will address the current failed economic model, and focus on areas such as agriculture, the environment, human rights, labor rights, consumer rights, food safety, public health, and many more issues that are affected by the WTO.
