Food First stands categorically opposed to the impending war on Iraq, and to the range of conflicts, covert and overt, in which the U.S. government is currently embroiled. War hurts everyone (except the war machine itself).

Articles on War and Hunger :

Food First Statement on War
For the people in the third world, on whose heads U.S. bombs rain, the outcome of war is invariably hunger, destitution and poverty. The U.S. embargo and continuous bombing of Iraq since 1991 have resulted in the deaths of over 500,000 children. We also stand opposed to the vast diversion of social spending that maintaining the U.S. military requires.

Hold the Euphoria
Will the American people be able to resist and see through pretexts like dictatorship and weapons of mass destruction? Will we be able to hold our leaders accountable to a higher standard? Will we prove wrong those who fear the worst of America?

Dissent is Growing
This movement will keep growing till there is an end to the unilateral use of force by the United States. It will not slow down till the United States becomes a true member of the global community and abides by all human rights conventions, disarmament agreements, International Criminal Court, and the Kyoto Protocol.

Give Protestors a Chance
There comes a time when mild opposition turns to serious concern, when reasonable voices are ignored, when 'polite' mass turnouts are ignored, when serious concern turns to anger and outrage. When does that point come? When is it justified to do something that inconveniences the morning commute? When international law is violated? When innocent lives are at stake? When our schools are sacrificed for war?

A Weak Empire is a Dangerous Empire: War and Free Trade (English | Español)
One of the oldest tactics of American presidents is to use war to stimulate the economy and distract people's attention from problems at home. But by looking a little deeper, we also find close links between the war and accompanying militarization, and the fanatical American push for so-called "free trade" policies at any cost.

In urban centers throughout southern and central Iraq, millions of civilians are facing disease and possible death due to inadequate access to water as a result of the US-British invasion. A new report by the Center for Economic and Social Rights, WATER UNDER SIEGE IN IRAQ, sets forth the possibility that the United States and United Kingdom risk committing war crimes by depriving Iraqi civilians of safe water.

Photographs: Worldwide Protest Against the War In Iraq
This musical slideshow, produced by the Baltimore County Green Party, documents the enormous number of people who demonstrated against war worldwide on February 15th, 2003.

United for Peace
United for Peace is a new national campaign that brings together a broad range of organizations throughout the United States to help coordinate our work against a U.S. war on Iraq.

MoveOn.org
MoveOn is working to bring ordinary people back into politics. With a system that today revolves around big money and big media, most citizens are left out. When it becomes clear that our "representatives" don't represent the public, the foundations of democracy are in peril. MoveOn is a catalyst for a new kind of grassroots involvement.
